Have You Lived Before?

8 Mar

One of the many benefits to be gained through meditation and regression is a shift in values, or a change in perspective that allows us to discern more clearly those things that are really important to us and those that aren’t.

Such a shift in values can occur when we discover that we’re immortal, that is, we don’t die when our bodies do. When we experience past-life regression, we come to realize that we’ve lived before and we’ll return to live again, united once more with our loved ones. The nature of suffering and mourning undergoes a transformation when we become aware that, although we may have lost physical contact with our family and friends, we will meet again on the Other Side or in another life.

The awareness that we are indeed spiritual beings prompts deep-rooted changes, leading us to greatly value such qualities as love, positive relationships, and compassion. We perceive our connection with all other beings more clearly. These new values subsequently become the foundation for happiness. Our priorities shift—events and people that previously upset or exasperated us can now be seen in a different light and from a different perspective. We become more patient and understanding. Our sense of inner peace and calm expands. The obstacles in our lives are now viewed more as opportunities to learn, steppingstones along our evolutionary journey. After all, we’re eternal, spiritual beings finding our way home—always loved and never alone. At this level, nothing can harm us.

After years of being a skeptic, I now believe in past lives. My belief is due to 21 years of experience with thousands of patients. I have witnessed many extraordinary and incredible phenomena, but I don’t feel that a belief in reincarnation is required for the benefits of regression therapy to accrue. Regardless of whether the material evoked is processed as metaphor symbol, important information is brought to consciousness; the knowledge and insights gained can lead to significant physical, emotional and spiritual transformations. Phobias and fears can vanish, values can change with this awakening to the spiritual dimension, love tends to flow more freely, and inner peace, which is connected to a sense of great joy and happiness, appears. The important point is not to be afraid, but to cast off prejudices and remain open-minded.

How To Find Love and Prosperity In The Akashic Records.

18 Ene

What do quantum physics, inspiration and discovery, your present circumstances, and your future destiny all have in common? All this—and so much more—can be found in the Akashic Records, the compendium of knowledge that spans from the infinite past into the unending future.

The term Akashic Records comes from the Sanskrit word Akasa meaning sky or ethers. This aptly represents the vast expanse of vibrating consciousness that fills the records with limitless information and opportunity. You yourself can tap this incredible resource to heal stuck patterns, receive inspiration, and manifest the very solutions you long for in your life.

Although this concept has been studied since ancient times, many modern people have never heard of the Akashic Records. Those who have often consider them to be a somewhat archaic concept that only holds past-life information and isn’t at all applicable to the desires and even the difficulties of daily life. But this couldn’t be farther from the truth. The records are a vibrating field of information about the energetic and natural worlds, and they hold every bit of Universal knowledge—from the wisdom of the ancient societies to the undiscovered truths of the quantum physical world. They also hold all the facts, energy, and experiences from each soul’s eternal existence, past, present, and potential future.

Since the records hold unlimited information about literally everything and everyone in the Universe, most people use the Akashic Records as a way to investigate how their past-life records could be influencing their present patterns. In fact, your personal records hold every bit of information relating to how such issues as love, finances, and health have played out throughout your eternal life. These and all the experiences and emotions of past lives are written in the records that you have brought into this life, and those records are influencing you even now.

Your relationship records hold some of the most important information regarding the experiences of your present life. Patterns of how you relate to people and how they relate to you, the types of people you attract, and even the pattern of not being able to attract anyone at all—all of these current issues could point to the possibility that you are reliving your past-life records.

Such was the case for a client of mine that I call “the lonely postman.” When we looked at his past-life Records, we found he had a life as a pony-express rider—someone who rode horses to deliver mail to the farthest western reaches of the U.S. In that life he had fallen in love, but felt he shouldn’t tie down the young lady because he was often gone for months at a time. So he determined that, “Love wouldn’t be right,” and he wrote that conclusion in his records.

He brought those records and intentions into this life, and interestingly enough, he brought the profession, too. He delivered mail again, but this time he stayed close to home. He also unwittingly repeated the loneliness he had chosen in that life; but he used the technique below to release those old records, and he finally gave himself the freedom to fall in love. He also programmed a happy, successful relationship in his Future Records, affirming that he deserved to find true love—and that it was safe and right for him to do so.

It didn’t take long before he met the girl of his dreams. With further research we found that it was the same girl he had left behind in that past life, and in fact, she even had the same first name! This isn’t uncommon. The records connect us and influence our lives in countless amazing ways.

If finding real love has been difficult for you, you may actually be carrying records of intentional isolation, which you may not even be aware of. If so, there are things that you can do to shift this pattern.

In order to open and read a past-life record, you can do the following meditation. Visualize yourself going to your Record Library. Get comfortable there and ask for information about any stuck issue you have in mind. You may see or sense the influencing past-life event on a screen or perhaps in a book. You may just get a feeling of what happened in the past to create the present pattern. Just let yourself be open to whatever information may come up.

Once you have an idea of what the source may be, take a moment to visualize yourself writing a new record reversing the negative experience, one where you feel empowered and where the result is a happy, honoring, and fulfilling one. Visualize a joyous event playing out and healing the negative influence. This changes the energy of that record along with the impact it has on your current issue.

But if you prefer, you can resolve your present issues or problems simply by creating a visualization of success and planting it in your records of the future. You can also enlist the assistance of a record angel or guide to carry your intention into the Universal Records where it will be acknowledged and fulfilled. This reveals how truly remarkable the Akashic Records are in their power and scope. The past and the future converge in this present intention, and you can use this time to create new records for the present—and for the immediate and long range future! In order to establish new, successful events in your Future Records, follow these steps:

1. Have the details, images, and emotions of your joyous visualization already planned out in your mind. Use only one goal per programming session.

2. Breathe deeply and let yourself relax. As you do, gently let your consciousness float to your Record Library, where you meet your guide or record angel.

3. Continue to relax, and let yourself happily watch the wonderful images of your successful outcome play out on your Record Screen or come to life in your future Record Book. See or sense them unfolding just as you desire. Feel the joy that these images bring.

4. As the image starts to wrap up, affirm that you are placing this experience into the records of your future reality. Then visualize your guide or angels lifting the image into the energetic realm, the realm of all possibilities. As they do, thank them and know that they will be working on your goal as well.

This process combines the power of visualization with the strength of Akashic Record creation. It also brings in the incredible energy of the Record Spirits, which accelerates the intention far beyond mere visualization. You can apply this process to any endeavor you desire, including physical healing, career success, romance, and increasing prosperity. Whatever stuck pattern you may be facing, you can change it by placing new images and energies into your future records.

his was the case for a client who had been dealing with issues of ongoing poverty. No matter what job she got, she was always just getting by—and sometimes not even that. She wanted to breakthrough this constant striving and get a promotion that would secure her financial security. She did the process described above and supported that with affirmations about deserving unlimited abundance, which she also planted in her Akashic Records. It took a few months of peaceful yet persistent repetition, but in time she found out her supervisor was retiring and recommending her as his replacement!

These are just a few cases where people have used the Akashic Records to change their lives. The amount of information, inspiration, and energy that they can open up to you will enrich your life in ways you can’t even imagine! In fact, once you begin to open the record doors and tap the discovery, power, and spirit there, your life will never be the same!

Are Past Life Memories Causing Your Anxiety Symptoms?

18 May

I know that there is a reason for everything. Perhaps at the moment that an event occurs we have neither the insight nor the foresight to comprehend the reason, but with time and patience it will come to light.

So it was with Catherine. I first met her in 1980 when she was 27 years old. She had come to my office seeking help for her anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias. Although these symptoms have been with her since childhood, in the recent past they had become much worse. Every day she found herself more emotionally paralyzed and less able to function. She was terrified and understandably depressed.

In contrast to the chaos that was going on in Catherine’s life, my life was flowing smoothly. I had a good stable marriage, two young children, and a flourishing career.

I attended the Yale University School of Medicine and received my M.D. degree in 1970. After completing my residency in psychiatry, I accepted several faculty positions and gained national recognition in the fields of biological psychiatry and substance abuse. I was promoted to Associate Professor of Psychiatry at University of Miami and appointed Chief of Psychiatry at a large university-affiliated hospital there. By that time, I had already published 37 scientific papers and book chapters in my field.

Years of disciplined study had trained my mind to think as a scientist and physician, molding me along the narrow paths of conservatism in my profession. I distrusted anything that could not be proved by traditional scientific methods.

Then I met Catherine. For 18 months I used conventional methods of therapy to help her overcome her symptoms. When nothing seemed to work, I tried hypnosis. In a series of trance states, Catherine recalled “past-life” memories that proved to be the causative factors of her symptoms. She also was able to act as a conduit for information from highly evolved “spirit entities,” and through them she revealed many of the secrets of life and of death. In just a few short months, her symptoms disappeared, and she resumed her life, happier and more at peace than ever before.

Nothing in my background had prepared me for this. I was absolutely amazed when these events unfolded. At the time of my first session with Catherine, I had no idea that my life was about to turn upside down, that the frightened, confused woman across the desk from me would be the catalyst and that I would never be the same again.

I do not have a scientific explanation for what happened. There is far too much about the human mind that is beyond our comprehension.
It took me four years after meeting Catherine to write about what happened, four years to garner the courage to take the professional risk of revealing this unorthodox information.

Suddenly one night while I was taking a shower, I felt compelled to put this experience down on paper. I had a strong feeling that the time was right, that I should not withhold the information any longer. The lessons I had learned were meant to be shared with others, not to be kept private.

The knowledge had come through Catherine and now had to come through me. I knew that no possible consequence I might face could prove to be as devastating as not sharing this knowledge I had gained about immortality and the true meaning of life.

I rushed out of the shower and sat down at my desk with the stack of audios I had made during my sessions with Catherine. In the wee hours of the morning, I thought of my old Hungarian grandfather who had died while I was still a teenager. Whenever I would tell him that I was afraid to take a risk, he would lovingly encourage me by repeating his favorite English expression: “Vat the hell,” he would say, “vat the hell.”

Reincarnation 101- Why We Come Back

9 Abr

People are constantly asking me, “What is my soul’s purpose?” The easy answer is to love unconditionally. The energy that we call “love” is what the world of Spirit is made of; it’s the natural rhythm of the Universe. If every soul was evolved to the point where we all loved unconditionally, we would have “heaven on Earth.” As I explain in my new book, Adventures of the Soul, the ultimate goal of reincarnation is to bring the consciousness of love and understanding into our everyday existence. Just being a human presents many obstacles to this goal, but some of the lives we choose present more challenges than others. Sometimes we rise to the occasion and enrich the “tapestry,” and sometimes we fail and make the world a darker place. All souls come back to the physical incarnation with a strong purpose and a plan. Remember, the overall goal is to bring love into all that you do, but on Earth, there is free will. Not following your soul’s true desire (and instead succumbing to earthly lures that don’t bring the energetic vibration up) is the biggest cosmic speed bump out there.

Soul Lessons

Before our incarnation, we choose the life we think will afford us the best opportunities and/or challenges to help us hone our skills in practicing the energy of love. For most souls, much of the curriculum is defined by the relationships they will experience on Earth. These relationships will present opportunities to learn valuable lessons that the soul wouldn’t receive any other way. Therefore, relationships are the cornerstone of a soul’s growth and learning. Earth is like a smorgasbord, offering a range of lessons the soul is seeking to perfect.

Soul Groups

Some families get along well and have more than likely learned the karmic family lessons of valuing and respecting each other. Dysfunctional families are still learning. These lessons are not always easy to master, because the people in your life who present the greatest challenges are usually your greatest teachers. As we all know, relationships can be the most intense and demanding of all the experiences we will go through in life, but also the most gratifying and rewarding. And since the energy of love is the ultimate vibration the soul seeks, relationships present us with the best opportunity to learn and explore it. But it’s also important for us to learn how to love correctly. Of course, the first step in building healthy, loving relationships is to learn to love yourself. You must accept yourself as a loving representation of Spirit if you’re to accelerate your soul’s earthly sojourn. Everybody makes mistakes—everybody loses their temper; everybody judges—but if we make a conscious effort to be mindful every day of how we treat ourselves and others, life becomes much easier.

Love Relationships

Intimate connections between two souls who are drawn to each other and share their lives as partners or a married couple are brought together because each one has an aspect of his or her soul makeup that the other partner might need to learn from. Partners really assist us in finding within ourselves the truth that is there but maybe we haven’t taken the time to acknowledge or express.

Just as important to our soul lessons as family and intimate partners are the relationships we create with friends. It is said that a person rich in friends has the greatest riches of all. In the Spirit World before our incarnation, soul groups plan out how they can assist each other in the next incarnation and what valuable lessons they can bring and share with each other, and it might last a week or many years. It can take lifetimes to develop close friendships, and the elements of trust, honesty, respect, and appreciation are worked on and worked out until the souls are in complete harmony with each other. Friendships are one of the greatest ways to express love. “Like attracts like” is the Law of Attraction. If we live mindful lives centered on love and nonjudgment, we’ll attract the same type of people into our sphere. If we give that energy out, those who also give out that energy will be drawn to us. If we’re bitter, envious, and spiteful, we will not only draw those same people to us, but we’ll repel the ones who can probably assist us the most in our soul’s growth. Who would you rather have in your life?

Once we are awakened to our life lessons and put them in proper perspective, we hopefully will gain a sense of mindfulness. We’re more in control of our lives, and we make better choices with respect to how we interact with everyone in our sphere. We become aware of approaching life from a place of love and not fear. We begin to truly live in the moment. We are conscious of living from the heart space of compassion and understanding instead of the rational head space of criticism and judgment. From the heart space, we also are able to see other souls as being products of their life experiences and choices, and it’s easier to empathize. By changing ourselves and our perspectives, we change our value systems and lifestyles. We are quickening our vibration and frequency to a higher level, and in turn, those around us begin to change. Love is the fastest vibration, so when the soul begins to work within this frequency, it changes not only us but our entire atmosphere and environment. As we rise in vibration, all of our relationships will change because we are changing. Below is a video of me explaining an experience of a soul in transition and the inspiration behind my book, Adventures of The Soul:

Are You A Lightworker? Choosing A Career In Healing.

28 Mar

I believe that each person has a personal mission in life—something that you agreed to learn during this lifetime. It could be patience, forgiveness, compassion, balance, self-care, integrity, and so forth. Everyone is working on a soul-growth lesson.

In addition to their personal missions, some individuals agreed to take on “global missions,” which involve helping people, animals, the environment, or a cause other than themselves. Not everyone has a global mission. Some people on Earth are only living for their own personal growth.

Those who have global missions are known as lightworkers. This is a name I’m using that encompasses similar terms such as Indigo, Crystal, and Earth Angel. You know you’re a lightworker if you feel compelled to help others, and deeply care about the world. You attract people who need help, and you’re sensitive to the needs of those around you. In fact, you sometimes feel that you’re a bit too sensitive, as you absorb energies from others’ moods.

A Sense Of Purpose

As a lightworker, you’ve always felt a sense of purpose, as if there’s something important that you’re destined to do in this lifetime. You may not know what this destiny entails, but you can feel it. All lightworkers do.

Lightworkers are those who volunteered, before birth, to help the planet and its population heal from the effects of fear. Each lightworker is here for a sacred purpose. Very often, however, life on earth with its material focus creates a form of amnesia in lightworkers. They then forget their divine and perfect identities, and also their abilities to miraculously help the earth and all living creatures. When lightworkers forget their true identity and purpose, they feel lost and afraid.

You are a lightworker if you:

1. Feel called to heal others.

2. Want to resolve the world’s social and environmental problems.

3. Believe that spiritual methods can heal any situation.

4. Have had mystical experiences, such as psychic premonitions or angelic encounters.

5. Have endured harsh life experiences that eroded the knowledge of your Divine perfection.

6. Want to heal your own life as a first step in healing the world.

7. Feel compelled to write, teach, or counsel about your healing experiences.

8. Feel a sense of time urgency to fulfill your mission before you know that you are here for a higher purpose or even if you are unsure what it is or how to fulfill it.

Everywhere on the planet right now, lightworkers are awakening to faint memories about why they came to earth. They hear an inner calling that can’t be ignored. This call is a reminder that it is now time to stop toying with material dreams, and get to work. Many lightworkers are discovering innate spiritual gifts, such as psychic communication skills and spiritual healing abilities. These are the gifts that we volunteered to use to heal the earth and her population during the crucial decades surrounding the millennium.

A Sense Of Urgency

There’s even a sense of time urgency associated with this, like an alarm clock ringing in the pit of your gut, urging you to go, go, go and make a positive difference in the world. These feelings are universal among lightworkers.

Prophecies predicted our coming, and now it is time for us to fulfill our Divine purposes. The world depends upon us!

We who are lightworkers don’t necessarily need to add anything to ourselves to prepare for our mission. We already have innate abilities, even if they are presently dormant. Instead, we need to work on releasing fears which keep us from feeling confident in our lightworker abilities. When you remind yourself that your power as a lightworker comes from your higher self and God (not from “you”) you automatically feel more assured of your abilities as a spiritual healer.

With our focused intent, thought, and spirit, we can heal anything. There are no limits, except those we place upon our healing abilities.

We definitely can heal the earth with our spiritual approach.

In fact, scientists have recently demonstrated that people can change water and air temperature and also cloud structures, purely through their thoughts. Researchers have known for years that prayer positively affects plants and animals. These studies reveal something that many lightworkers have already known: our collective prayers and healing thoughts can avert prophecies of world trauma.

There is only one spirit and one mind, and we are all part of this collective intelligence and love. Miraculous results in scientific laboratories are demonstrating the factual basis of the oneness of all life. Not long ago, U.S. and Japanese scientists hooked-up test subjects to blood pressure and heart monitor machines. Simultaneously, in separate and sealed rooms, other test subjects were asked to think loving or angry thoughts about the people hooked-up to the machines. At the exact instant when a subject held a loving thought, the monitored person’s blood pressure and heart rate significantly dropped. And then, at the precise moment when an angry thought was projected, the person’s vital signs skyrocketed upward.

Healing Energy

The great news is that, as a lightworker, you’ve been making a positive difference your entire life. You radiate healing energy that soothes others and brings peace wherever you go. That’s because your main global purpose is to love, which is something you do naturally. You care about people; and you wish that everyone could be happy, healthy, and well provided for. You are a giver.

So, the form that your mission takes is secondary as long as you extend Divine love. In other words, when you think about a career as a spiritual healer or teacher, the type of work you do isn’t important. Whether you teach or practice Reiki, Angel Therapy, mediumship, or some other modality . . . if it’s done from a place of loving service, everything else is details.

With that in mind, there’s a practical consideration when deciding on a teaching or healing modality. You’re forming a long-term relationship with your chosen field, so please make sure it’s an area that truly excites and interests you. It’s not smart to select one just because you’ve seen another person gain material success by that avenue.

Whatever type of healing or teaching you choose, please be certain that you love it. I’ve watched lightworkers create career goals with their heads, using business plans and projections, only to meet with one obstacle after another because their hearts weren’t in the work. And while planning and projecting can be helpful and prudent starting points for new business ventures, make sure that you’re leading with your heart.

In spiritually based careers, your feelings and intuition are your road map. Your head is second in charge, as the employee of your heart.
So what topic—even if it seems illogical—really excites you? Let’s ask your higher self:

Take a moment to relax in a quiet place, either lying down or sitting. Close your eyes if possible, and give yourself full permission to dream about your ideal career. Then notice what images, thoughts, and feelings come to you:

Are you working alone, with a co-worker, or with several co-workers?
Do you operate from home, out of a healing center, or where?
What type of clients or students are you involved with?
How do you feel about this work?
As you allow yourself to imagine your ideal career, notice how warm and fulfilled you feel. These feelings are the ultimate paycheck, the greatest reward. And as you feel satisfied, your material benefits are drawn to you by the Law of Attraction.

Your dream of having a full-time career as a spiritual teacher or healer is much more than a dream. It’s a sign. If you continually imagine yourself having a meaningful career that supports you and your family financially, emotionally, and spiritually, then this is a sign that your life purpose involves this type of work.

Lightworkers are, by definition, sensitive. They’re receptive to the energies in any room they walk into. They’re attuned to other people’s moods and feelings and to environmental factors such as chemicals, pollution, or noise. They’re conscious of the presence of angels.

And they’re also sensitive to other people’s opinions. This sensitivity is both a gift and a lifesaving instinct. You see, your overall personality remains fairly constant throughout lifetimes. Once a lightworker, always a lightworker. Remember: You already are a spiritual teacher and healer. You were born one, and you’ve been practicing your art for lifetimes.

Make Peace With Your Past Lives To Let Go Of Fear.

10 Dic

I have found the Records to be ideal for resolving ancient inner conflicts and releasing the trapped life force of countless incarnations. Long the province of saints and mystics, this infinite spiritual realm is now accessible to secular people in this New Age! Using my Pathway Prayer Process©, we can each consciously step into this dimension to examine our present-day dilemmas in the context of our entire existence across human lifetimes. It really puts everything in perspective!

Victimized In Prior Lifetimes

When I took this issue to my Records, I discovered that at the root was a fear of death. I honestly felt that if I was seen and known in the world, my life would be threatened. Honestly, this made no sense given my experiences in this lifetime, so I suspected that some very old ideas must be generating this point of view. I then asked about the origin and true nature of my difficulty. For a few moments, it felt like a cabinet above me had opened and unleashed an avalanche of boxes on my head! This allowed me to glimpse a number of times, places, and ways in which I’d been victimized in prior lifetimes.

The situations seemed familiar and oddly reassuring. I was tossed in dungeons for “dangerous” political views, into a fire-pit for failing to heal the wife of the chief, and off the side of a ship for practicing unusual rituals under a full moon. Though I use a visual vocabulary to describe these events, the knowing was more of a sense than an image. So, I had impressions of a series of lifetimes in which I’d been persecuted, martyred, and scarred for expressing my beliefs and, heaven knows, I prefer not to repeat those events! This was helpful but did not give me complete inner peace and freedom.

Worthy Of Love And Respect

I returned to my Records and discovered that, complicating matters, I had contempt for myself for being a victim and for my inability to find another way through those experiences. Then, it was if I sensed the scope of time through which human beings on every continent struggled with the effects of poverty, war, illness, famine—a seemingly endless wave of events.

The hardness in my heart toward myself and other victims softened as I recognized the heroic nature of people across history. And I felt within myself that I have been part of that history, and that my experiences of victimization were a legitimate part of the journey. Hopeful, I asked to see and know myself in the Light of the Akasha—and saw that I was still worthy of love and respect. From deep within, the question arose, “Can you love yourself even when you’ve been a victim?” And, in that moment, I shifted into compassion and appreciation for my imperfect self. Followed by a profound sigh of relief ushering me into a rich state of inner peace!

Life As A Military Leader

For a time I enjoyed this harmonious inner connection, until I found myself irritated and anxious about my own reactivity to authoritarian figures. For some reason, still unknown to me, this style of leadership annoyed me and provoked a fearful response. Back to my Records, where I was being led to a new awareness in which I was the executioner—a glimpse of a sliver of life as a military leader, enforcing the laws of the Pope and his Church. My job was secure, with status and privileges that made life relatively easy for my family. Orders were issued from the top, instructing us to round up and eliminate troublemakers. I felt the threat of the “crazy ideas” of these rebels and considered it an honor to be able to make the town safe for my wife and children.

Letting Go Of Negative Judgment

And then it occurred to me that I had dedicated decades to fear and resentment of those exercising this level of power and authority. And, in a flash, I realized that when I was the executioner, I was doing what I believed to be best for everyone. There was no malice, and I began to know in a very real way that every action we take is the best idea we have at any given moment. Recognizing this blew my mind, leaving me no option but to relinquish my negative judgment and open myself to a newfound respect for the beliefs of others, even if I did not understand or agree.

Making Peace With Myself

This completed my months-long exploration of this equation in my Records. Making peace with whom I have been in other times and places is the key to unleashing past life power. There is nothing to change. No “do-overs” necessary. What opens the floodgates to infinite inner peace is acceptance of self. What others do or don’t do is secondary. What I have done or failed to do is the precise point of power. Being willing to accept oneself “as is” releases centuries of stubborn old ideas and behavior—and unleashes the power of all time to find its way to you and me.

Amazing Gifts From My Son With Autism

4 Dic

“Your son is in a constant state of trying to return to the ecstasy of death.”

The words hit me hard and I felt instantly sick. Why would my five-year old son Jack want to die?

We were sitting in a little house in Vermont when the shaman made that statement. I had recently read Rupert Isaacson’s The Horse Boy, a story about a family that traveled on horseback through Mongolia in search of the shamans that would heal their autistic son.

I wanted a shaman to heal my autistic son.

So I found one.

In Vermont.

The shaman explained that “the ecstasy of death” was not the end as I had once imagined. She used words like nirvana, euphoria, connection to all, and oneness. It was like Jack was retreating from humanity.

That was six years ago and I had just about exhausted all of the biomedical therapies for autism. I had flown all over the country with Jack, meeting every autism doctor, therapist, and healer that offered hope of fixing my son, as if he was broken.

But the meeting with the shaman opened up a new possibility. What if Jack was not the one who was broken?

What if the collective struggle humanity faces as a people and a planet is more broken than autism?

We live with unfathomable stress, anxiety, and fear. We are depressed and overworked and largely dissatisfied with our jobs, relationships, and lives. It’s shrugged off as the norm. The way it is.

We live on a planet that is being poisoned and pillaged. There are wars and genocides and all kinds of crimes against humanity carried out daily. Each year, 3.5 million children die from starvation.

We need help. Desperately.

What if autism could open us up to this help?

What if we stop trying to force these kids into our version of normal, and start embracing their message – fear, judgment and the need to fix is the old paradigm. They are here to help us create the new “normal” where acceptance and understanding rule. This approach will unlock their potential.

While it is certainly true that children with autism have physical ailments and obstacles to overcome, they experience a different world than you and I.

They have uncanny artistic, musical, mathematical, and engineering capabilities. I am constantly reminded of my son’s brilliance when he solves a “brain-teaser” puzzle in five minutes even though it would take me hours. Or his ability to correctly identify all the musical notes played simultaneously on a piano, a talent defined as perfect pitch.

Some children with autism “see” people speak. They see colors dancing around the room that are aligned with the mood of the speaker. An angry person spews jaundiced yellows while a happy person projects glistening, rich greens.

Furthermore, they are actually more empathic and in tune with our feelings than we are. My son is the barometer for what is going on in my household. When there is harmony, Jack emerges. When there is discord, he retreats. The pattern is so obvious that my husband and I joke about it now. He mirrors us.

Their reality is beyond the scope of what we accept in our reality because they have advanced sensory systems, but they are totally misunderstood.

Autism is presenting us with a new paradigm. The promise, as I have seen with my own son, is that letting go of this idea that they are broken and seeking to understand their world, creates an environment for our children to connect with us.

This opens the door to the life we dream of for our children and ourselves.
